Ribs....

So 2 weeks after the pneumonia clears up and I am still coughing. My husband asks the doctor he works with. Doc says that's normal. I'll probably be coughing for another couple weeks- my body is trying to get it out.

My side hurts. That's normal, too. Coughing has strained my rib cage.

I'm at work last Friday and my principal comes in and makes some jokes about when I finally have kids they're gonna be crazy like me and will have to be checked at the doors. We are cracking up about this! Very funny stuff.

He leaves, I cough. I hear a pop. A sudden pain. I can't take a full breath. I can't speak a full sentence.

I call my husband (have I mentioned that he's a paramedic and studying to be a nurse? he is my official medical opinion). He tells me to call the school nurse and come listen to my lungs. The kids come back for lunch and are like- omg what's going on with you? I try to be a trooper and not freak out- doesn't work. Nurse comes up, gives me an ice pack, tells me to call my doctor. I call my doctor's office and am told to go to the Urgent Aid (I think I am becoming a frequent flyer at this place- which is also where my husband works).

My hub meets me at the UA- the nurse and her assistant have driven me there. The doc on duty says I probably just pulled a muscle, it can hurt like a broken bone sometimes. But, just to be sure, I'm gonna have a chest x-ray.

Results come in. Doctor's jaw drops. I have broken a rib.

Of course I have.

I get a shot of muscle relaxer and pain meds in my butt. Ugh...

I'm on the mend!
