Ribs....

So 2 weeks after the pneumonia clears up and I am still coughing. My husband asks the doctor he works with. Doc says that's normal. I'll probably be coughing for another couple weeks- my body is trying to get it out.

My side hurts. That's normal, too. Coughing has strained my rib cage.

I'm at work last Friday and my principal comes in and makes some jokes about when I finally have kids they're gonna be crazy like me and will have to be checked at the doors. We are cracking up about this! Very funny stuff.

He leaves, I cough. I hear a pop. A sudden pain. I can't take a full breath. I can't speak a full sentence.

I call my husband (have I mentioned that he's a paramedic and studying to be a nurse? he is my official medical opinion). He tells me to call the school nurse and come listen to my lungs. The kids come back for lunch and are like- omg what's going on with you? I try to be a trooper and not freak out- doesn't work. Nurse comes up, gives me an ice pack, tells me to call my doctor. I call my doctor's office and am told to go to the Urgent Aid (I think I am becoming a frequent flyer at this place- which is also where my husband works).

My hub meets me at the UA- the nurse and her assistant have driven me there. The doc on duty says I probably just pulled a muscle, it can hurt like a broken bone sometimes. But, just to be sure, I'm gonna have a chest x-ray.

Results come in. Doctor's jaw drops. I have broken a rib.

Of course I have.

I get a shot of muscle relaxer and pain meds in my butt. Ugh...

I'm on the mend!

Pneumonia...

So, I'm back to work on Monday. Coughing... still not feeling 100%. The kids are freaking out about my cough- it seizes me up and takes a while to pass. I'm freaking out about my cough.

On Tuesday, my husband suggests I go to the Urgent Aid. I go. I get a blood work up and a chest x-ray.

The doctor comes back and tells me I have pneumonia. Apparently, the flu settled in my chest and turned into pneumonia. Then he informs me that I have to take the rest of the week off. WHAT?! I took 4 days off last week because of the flu- I tell him. He turns around and says, "You have pneumonia. You are contagious. You cannot go to work." and was gone.

So, 3 days off. I'm starting to get a little upset by this whole thing.

Week's up. I go back to work.

To be continued...

The Flu...

It had taken hold of me all week. Striking quick, like a snake, I didn't even see it coming. Started feeling sick Monday night- but was already taking Tuesday off for a family emergency. Woke up Tuesday morning and ached all over. Had a fever over 100 and felt awful. Slept nearly all day. Wednesday barely woke up, got to work, had to turn around nearly right away and go back home. Fever over 102. Slept for nearly 6 hours- felt worse. Woke up Thursday- nauseous. My God, I wonder, is this thing ever going to come to an end? Nope... Sick like a dog on Thursday. Friday- feeling slightly better- still no work. I didn't go to work for 4 days straight. I have only done that once and that was for my honeymoon last December. Then, I woke up on Saturday feeling a bit more human.
Here we are on Sunday. Headache- check, tired- check, ready to go back to work- check... Hell yes I am... if it were between being that sick and being off or feeling like I am now and working- I will most certainly take going back to work!!

Moral- GO GET YOUR FLU SHOT!! (I thought it was too early... apparently, I was too late)

New Charms

My mother has been working on her mad soldering skills and has made some new charms for our shop! The collages are original designs (by me- thank goodness for summer vacation because I don't think I could have made it through staying up until 2 am if I had to work in the morning). We hope you like them!!

This Past Weekend....

We did not make it to Kane County. I had a wedding to shoot any my mom had to work. So, unfortunately the flea markets gods were not on our side. Next month will be a no-go as well. I've got another wedding to shoot- and it'll be in Michigan- all weekend. And, you know how Chicago is in the Fall... you never know what'll happen in November.

That being said, we're trying to find some craft fairs to hook up with. I'll keep you posted.

(photo is one of my mother's fantastic creations. She's made this bracelet out of vintage costume jewelry)

Friday Trivia

Well, no one won. The answer was Singles- Cameron Crowe. It is one of my favorite movies ever!! I'll be back next week with another...

The Business of the Business

So, yesterday my mother and I sat down to write a letter for some shops to see if they'd be interested in carrying our pendants. Pretty good stuff. It'd be nice during the winter months to have some way to get our merchandise out there without having to freeze our butts off at Kane County. :)

Also, Friday on Facebook, I started the first of the weekly give-a-ways! I just wanted to see who was paying attention. So, I gave out a song lyric and was waiting for the right answer. Well, a friend got it right away. It kind of surprised me but I'm happy that someone took interest. It gets people looking at the store- right?

Now, I figure I'll try it out here. The FIRST person to answer it correctly will be notified on Friday. Along with your answer, please have the name of the item you'd like to win!

Trivia question... What movie is this quote from: "If you get married, will we still go out dancing?"- "We will always go out dancing!"

It's Sunday Already?!

I cannot believe how quickly both the first week back to school went and how absurdly fast the weekend slipped away from me.

Both my mother and I have been working on some new pendants for the shop. We've changed our sale for the Fall. Everything in the shop is Buy 3 Get 1 Free and free shipping as well.

I don't think we are going to be at Kane County in 2 weeks. I've got a wedding to shoot and we don't have much in the way of furniture to give us any sustenance for 2 loooong days. I'm trying to convince my mother that Sunday would be just fine if we took all of our necklaces, hair accessories, and the vintage jewelry. We shall see how this shakes out- I will certainly keep you all informed.

Etsy has been good to us this past month. We've had several sales and are excited that we've been "found" there. Certainly, we are still not where we'd hope to be- but all good things come to those who wait... and wait... and wait...

Recently, there have been some cool Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton's version) graphics that have come into our lives. Hopefully those will make an appearance soon. It's strange to not have all day to play and create. I told my husband this morning that I feel like my freedom has been taken away being back at school. My time, my interests, my reading, my feet have all been encumbered to the school day and those teenagers that drain everything out of you every single day.

Come on September 7th!!

Until later...

Good Bye Garage Sailing...

Here we are, Friday August 14th. It is officially my last day of summer vacation... I know.. I know.. I can hear you all booing and hissing as we speak.. poor baby, indeed!

To understand how sad today actually is, we must think about when we are off for a week's vacation. That Sunday night, oh the dread of it all!! Getting up early, showering and driving to work. All of that vacation glow falling off of you when you cross the threshold of the job. Imagine being off for 11 weeks and having to return to the drudgery!! Just when you think you've hit the jackpot and are happily retired, you get up, put on socks and closed toed shoes and walk into a classroom with a bunch of kids who'd rather be sleeping, eating, picking their noses, whatever- just not in front of you. If they only knew how much teachers hated it, too. I'd much rather be sleeping, eating, or picking... hmm... garage sailing!!

My mother got a job about a month ago and our endless twin vacations came abruptly to a halt. I was forced to go garage sailing myself- it is not half as much fun without your other half.

So, today was it. And, to add insult to injury, there weren't many sales and when there were, there wasn't much to pick from. Bummer.

On a lighter note- this last month of summer has lead to the creation of more goodies in our shop! We are going to start reaching out to shops in hopes they'll be interested in carrying our goodies! Kane County was a success and we received a lot of positive feedback. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
